well i have had issues with our ac unit since day one when in 95* or higher heat. it will run for a while then tries to freeze up or surge. i have taken it in under warranty 3 times but no longer under warranty and those fools at the dealership always said it pull the correct amps on start up and while running . now i didn't take it in to know that i took it in because it was running correctly and would stop cooling. i told them when it starts to do this if i shut it off for 5 mins it looks like there a garden hose in full psi shooting off my gutter! well last weekend i didn't catch it in time and it surged and blew the breaker. reset it and 30 mins later did it again. so i pulled the inside apart to check the a coil and it was clean but did find two spots they forgot to seal it off from the attic so fixed that. i then went up top and pulled the cover....... leach camper never pulled the cover nor any of the sheet metal covering the condensor! this i know for a fact after doing so myself now. i found a fir blanket of shit plugging my condensor. i peeled off 4"x4" sections of this crap with 2 fingers and it was about 1/4" thick, yes i cleaned and washed the condensor. my unit has a plastic fan as well and these newer units use a diff type of freon that doesn't work as well as the r22 did 10 years ago so they need all the help they can get. read some really nice posts on a camper forum about wrapping the metal box the a coil is mounted in and wrapping the high side line with pipe insulation foam like they use on a house. the biggest 1 mod thought was this rubber roof coating i posted a link to above. anyone ever try this?

Now that you fixed the plugged condenser, you should have no further issues. All there is to it. If you want to coat the roof,I'd suggest you do so to extend it's service life only. It is white already ,is it not? If so,the only thing that will help is a true reflective radiant barrier coating. Adding another white layer is like adding water to a full bucket.

yes it is in the white family and yes it would extend the service life but if it would help reduce heat in the roof then the ac would work better which these new ac's need all the help they can get. is it as good as a true reflective radiant barrier....no but next best imo

Just being white is no guarantee of it's reflective value was my point.  We sell a silver ,silicone based coating that is the cat's ass.I bet you can get it in your area.

I'm gonna coat the metal roof on my trailer before the trip.  Done on others and made a big diff as I was rolling on.  Just waiting for temps to drop some first.  Fook 100* days!!
