side by sides
« on: September 03, 2014, 02:32:03 PM »
I was at Rexburg Idaho this last weekend and my friend went to the dunes. They just got out on the dunes and they saw black smoke. They went to the smoke and there was a side by side on fire. From my under standing the driver got out with ok but the passenger could not get the seat belts off very fast and was really burnt. He had goggles on and everything was burnt on his face but his eyes were ok. His skin was coming off. He was airlifted out. I will see if I can find out more.

Dang Dan that sucks big time.  Pray for a speedy recovery.  Man them belts on them side by side are a problem.  After reading all about the buggy and side by side fires in Glamis I put a seat belt cutter on the key chain so it can be pulled out easily. Thinking about duck taping one to the bottom as well.  So If i ever get it on it's lid someone can rip it off.

Chris said it was an ugly sight and did not take any pictures of the person. He does have a picture of the fire though. They were the first ones on the fire.

One more good reason to have some sort of fire suppressing system on board.  Even just a couple good fire extinguishers.  When I say good I mean some with a good amount of foam or what ever in them.  At least it mite help to get the people out in time.

Crap, hoping the best for whoever it was. New car has onboard 10# halon, thinking seriously about adding to blue buggy. This stuff is just happening all too regularly anymore. Seriously considering for myself and any passenger use at the very least a good fire retardant work shirt .I will provide,of course, along with the wrist/arm restraints........................

I am a fan of camlock belt hardware BUT,as with anything, maintenance is important. Make sure to regularly blow the sand from them. Never had one jam when releasing but have had the pins jam open and not latch. Still TONS better than that fricken latch link that gets snagged occasionally and comes unlatched -at the worst possible time such as in the middle of a whoops section...........................
