Ever Had Trouble Burping Radiator?
« on: August 04, 2014, 06:59:55 PM »
Well,I have.LRS @ GD.com posted up the professional model of this

http://www.nationaltoolwarehouse.com/AirLift-II-Cooling-System-Tool-P54899.aspx?gclid=CMLi_d2C-78CFcI7MgodmlsAog

I bought this one for a little over 1/2 the cost of the one he posted. Made by the same company. Nothing but good reviews anywhere on either one. For $80,I'll happily make the purchase to avoid the hassle of burping. Trapped air can cause alll kinds of crap to happen. All bad.

Just about every race car I have worked on needed one of those to get all the air out of the system. Anything with the radiator not mounted directly in front of the motor will need one.

Also, high temp Schrader valves mounted at the high points really help.

Try it now. I bought mine from amazon even though I don't like them. I usually pay sales tax since one of their distribution centers is 5 miles from my house. thumb down This shipped from another so,no tax. ;D

That works on initial fill and for periodic checking. I will be plumbing those spots to the pressurized surge tank to have constant air bleeding though . Many cars are plumbed this way now.

Bought the same unit two or three years back.  Only way to to fill a radiator now days.  Was told was the only way on a LS motor.

LS's seem to be really picky even with all the steam bleeds hooked up on the heads.

My blue buggy was the worst I ever encountered.

looks like a nice kit but honestly as long as the radiator has been even or higher than the heads, i have never had a problem bleeding a radiator on bikes or auto engines. i do drill an 1/8" hole in the thermostats before hand as well and have always found that to help. just lucky...maybe.

Just lucky. Many engines today have lots of places to trap steam pockets .

I still think air was part of my cooling problems in past?  Raising the rad up quit a bit made burping much easier, better air too, so who knows.

Always.  At least one.  Usually 2-3 holes

That just removes the most common air trap. It does nothing to remove trapped air elsewhere in some systems.
