BitterSweet Goodbye
« on: May 07, 2014, 08:30:18 PM »
Well... I completed my buggy a few months back prior to winter.  After it being drivable for many years in its current configuration.  I put a lot of hard learned work into it and it was a blast to drive.  I previously had several deals fall through to trade it for a particular bike i was after.  a Honda VTX1800..   well after not meeting the reserve on ebay and nothing but tire kickers on craigslist.. I took it to a local bike dealer who also does trading.  We were able to make a deal for a trade.  My buggy for their 2004 honda VTX1800 with 8800 miles on it..  I had to fork over $100 cash but they basically gave me $5500 for my buggy.

So it was sad letting something go that you put years, sweat, blood and tears into..  i spent countless 3am nights working on this thing.  crazy.. but it is nice knowing someone else will get to enjoy it so it doesnt rot in a shed for a few more years.  AND I got what I wanted out of it monetary wise.   So goodbye buggy!  :'(

Its was a happy-sad day for me too.  I had 3 times the hours on old green car and had gotten it dial in pretty good.  But it was time, like you to move on.  Congrats and I think  you got a great deal.

Thanks guys!!    I will eventually build another buggy now knowing what I really want out of a buggy.  I loved this one but it could have been better.

Man im sorry brian about the shock rebuild kit.. i can paypal you for it if youd like.  The one shock leaked some oil and then never did again.  and it was impossible for me to ever get away to head your way.  The lake in the back is the lewis and clark resivour in yankton, SD.   I have a camper there and it was fun taking the buggy there.   Sucks I never had the transportation means to take my buggy to a dts meetup..

the VTX has a $500 mustang seat, cobra exhaust, aftermarket peg set and highway pegs- also for passenger, windshield, power commander, LED engine lighting, radiator cowl, Grips with cruise control and a few other odds and ends.  Its a massive bike. im used to 400lb crotch rockets so it weird.. lol

no bill on the rebuild kit as it was a warranty thing that i was supposed to send the bad parts back for but as of yet no one has ever contacted me, in almost 3 years, i don't think it will be a problem.   i wondered if that wasn't lewis and clark lake.....they allow sand rails to be driven on there property? are there trails? i would like more info on this if we can take our rails up there and camp too!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

any pics of you riding up there? that's only a 3 to 3.5 hr drive for me.

I've always thought a shaft drive MC buggy would be a goodgreat match IF you build big enough to live with the drive shaft offset.

the driveshaft is about in the same spot are the sprocket would be on a chain driven engine... i had my motor set over 3"  I bet it wouldnt be much more than that with a driveshaft.
