Yummi's Sporadic Video Thread
« on: January 31, 2013, 11:33:08 PM »
So I decided to enter the digital age.  Got the new seats installed tonight after rewiring the car and was finally able to take it out.  Been a month long project from the last dune trip to 01/31.  Too Long.  Had to do something!

Have had a Race Optics camera for a while.  Never installed on my JP car.  One of the features that Race Optics had that drew me as opposed to a Go Pro was that it had an audio in.  After rewiring the car, decided that was a perfect time to hook up the camera.  Now, no, I am not bashing GoPro, in fact I have one that will complement the Race Optics with various points of view, etc.  Just always seemed to me that the car to car or intercom chatter was missing.  So, quick call to rugged, they send out the right patch cables, and all the audio you hear on this movie is 100% exactly as heard in the car.

Amazed at the audio quality of the music from the IPod, to the intercom to the race optics and then re-recorded via Race Optics.  Will have new stereo installed this weekend.  Should be really good audio then.

Really looking forward to playing with the videos some more.  Will work on this primary camera mount in the next few days.  Need to adjust the angle of the lens a bit.  Camera is mounted about where a radio antenna would be on a passenger car right in front of windshield on passenger side.  Could not be more pleased with the audio quality.  Really exceeded my expectations.

Did I mention I love having a “tri sport” car?  How many guys are lucky enough to take their dune cars to dinner?

Enjoy – sort of boring (OK Really boring, but the audio is the bomb.)  This is my first ever shot at editing video, and first time ever having the Race Optics camera installed.  I got a kick out of it all working and that I could edit it.

From time to time I will update the thread with more Sand Beetle adventures.

Anyways:  Here is the YouTube link

and here is the Viemo link.

Figure one or both is going get grumpy on the audio

Thanks

I habe the old RaceOptics recorder with the 4 camera processor. If usung all 4 cams the vid resolution is split between all 4 and the vid quality suffers BUT if using just 1 it is supurb. I assume you have the more modern version?

No, in fact I don't know if they are still in business.  Mine is single camera.  Will use Go Pro for various angles and splice / edit them together.   Just wanted the audio in.  But really a much better picture than go pro it seems? Will be fun to see how good it is in full day light.

That seems to be a great way to have the best of both worlds, as far as, sand and city drivability.  Good job on the vid!

Went and ran the desert today.  The whole purpose of this car in lieu of a straight sand buggy.

Will finish the edit for the full day in the next few days – this is just a fun spot from our run at Hassayampa River with an unplanned excursion.

Put a protective film on the lens, not certain if I like the loss of video quality, but audio quality still kicks but.  Need to figure a way to protect the lens – worried about sand blasting, etc.

Enjoy

The cam doesn't have replaceable  lenses? Mine are. Unscrew cap and insert new one.

The lenses can be had pretty readily or were a couple years ago when I needed some. I think R-O went away quite a while back.

That was another fun excursion.

We left the home and drove to the lake.  So good to be street legal.  From there it is just a hop skip and jump to Sycamore Creek to meet up with some friends.  Could not stay long.  Just long enough for the poker run.

Only had one camera (Well, fine; two cameras, and one working memory card) with us, so we made the best with what we had.

Enjoy.

See you next time.
