Twin DHeimified Busa Cudas
« on: February 04, 2010, 10:26:17 PM »
Well let me start by saying that there is so much going on with this build that I have no freaking idea on where to even start  drowning

Im so deep into this construction and the mods that are going into it that it is just redicilous. The front suspension is going through so many changes that zero of the front A-arms are the same as any of my last Cuda builds. I even had to make new jigs for some of the arms. The uprights are also way different in geometry and new plates were cut. At the end of all this I have gained more ground clearance, lower droop, zero bump steer (Edge claims to have zero anyway... False), tighter turning radius, no fouling between lower a-arm mount and tierod, no progressive castor through travel (if built to plans it has IMO can do witout), and now the nose at full bump is further from the ground keeping the nose out of the dirt.

Well first off I have the base chassis welded up and the rear housings in. I have kicked out the right side of the engine bay to make better room for the offset of the Busas that will power these bad boys.

Here are the new lasers for the modified uprights followed by an installed upright showing the 10 degree rotation of the steering arms allowing more droop and ground clearance. Its not just as simple as this though as you will soon see...

Now I have the new lower arm (still needs bracing) compared to an original arm. The offset is to move the mounts on the chassis further forward to make room for the rack nd steering rods. When turned to full lock, the opposite side would hit the arm mount also pictured.

You can see the unused travel on the rack as there is fouling on the original arm mount locations. I do have more usable travel available by the rack as Im using one of my modified racks for the set up.

Here you can see the old mount tag. The arm is now in its new location and the tag on te far left will be removed.

Tag removed

Same done to the forward mount of the lower A-arm.

Here is a comparison from the left to the right sides and extra clearance in the bottom of the new uprights.

I am awaiting for some new plate work and I need to do some machining for the new upper arms. Those will turn up in the next week or so. then Ill really take some detailed pics. The upper arms will change the way the castor is adjusted. BETTER!

Here is one of the motors being mocked up for engine mounts.

Enjoy, More to come, Im sure I left alot out but thats enough for now.

Thats a nice offer. I think Ill take you up on it. There not as bad as they look either. A good sanding may just fix them up!

The one reciving the front end mock up is mine, The one getting the motor mounts is Silver Bolt's. Once these opperations are done they will switch roles. I really cat wait to get them on the ground to see the extra clearance and get some numbers.

I'm really tired of making improvements to the Cuda Doug.  Every time I make head way, you make an improvement.  I'm never going to get this thing done.

Just kidding.  YOU ARE THE MAN 8)

FOOK all of the people who said you couldn't build your own buggy.  You have and lots of others are building YOUR buggy too.

Rock on Doug, you da man!!

Thanks Adam. This really is a huge change from the original Cuda. Just still utalising most of the same base frame construction. Not quite sure yet, but the upper arm rear mount may change even more. As you can see in the pic below, I did raise it even more this time, bringing the A-arms to be parallel to one another. It is tacked for the reason that Im still playing with ideas. I may move it inboard more also.
